Proteqfit FAQ's
Hi there, thank you for supporting Proteqfit we couldn’t be happier to get you into a rad custom mouthguard.
How does this work?
After you have ordered the mouthguard that works best for you, we will mail out everything you will need. The instructions and all the equipment are included in the kit.
Before you begin the mouthguard making process you must be aware of the limitations of custom mouthguards and your responsibility in declaring any existing dental issues, fixed orthodontic work, loose or painful teeth or loose dental work.
There are risks associated with mouthguard wear, and they include the potential for sore spots or ulceration if the mouthguard is tight or rubbing on the tissues in the mouth. If this happens with your mouthguard, please discontinue use and contact Proteqfit.
How do I find out what type of mouthguard I need for my sport?
Your local club or national representative body should be able to give you recommendations on what type of mouthguard will work best for you.
Who is Proteqfit not recommended for?
Proteqfit products are not recommended for anyone who has:
- fixed orthodontic work like braces or expansion screws, anything in your mouth that you can't remove yourself.
- loose or painful teeth
- loose or faulty crowns, bridges or other dental work
- not got the ability to easily insert and remove the mouthguard themselves
Can sports mouthguards be used in place of other dental appliances?
No. Custom mouthguards are specifically designed to protect you while playing sports and other activities. Mouthguards are designed to reduce the risk of damage to your teeth, jaws, gums and the risk of concussion.
What if I have a denture or removable appliance?
It is recommended that you remove the appliance while wearing the mouthguard. When you take the impression of your mouth, you will do it without the appliance or denture in place.
What if I am currently undergoing orthodontic treatment?
The best advice would be to talk to your Orthodontist about this. Depending on what stage your treatment is at. As your teeth move during treatment the fit of the mouthguard will be compromised. Your Orthodontist can give you guidance on when would be the ideal time to have a custom mouthguard made for you.
My kids are growing and new teeth are erupting how long will the mouthguard last?
When we make mouthguards for kids with erupting teeth, we create some space for the tooth to erupt into so that it won't affect the fit of the mouthguard straight away. In our experience it is likely that kids that are growing and loosing teeth will usually need a new mouthguard every 18-24 months. But as long as the mouthguard fits and it is comfortable keep wearing it.
How should I care for my mouthguard?
Mouthguards are easy to look after. All you need to do is give them a clean with a soft toothbrush and soap after each use. Let it air dry and pop it back in the storage box.
Avoid leaving mouthguards in places where they can get hot, like gloveboxes as heat will warp the mouthguard material.
